TUI damaged baggage compensation.
Are you even entitled to a compensation? What are the rules?
Sometimes baggage gets damaged. If your luggage experiences minor scratches or dents, TUI is not responsible. However, for more serious damage like broken handles, broken wheels, cracks or holes, TUI can be held accountable.
What to do if your luggage is damaged?
What to Do If Your Luggage Is Damaged?
If your luggage is damaged, the first step is to report it.
Stay in the baggage claim area and look for the Baggage Service Office, which is usually located near the baggage carousels. There, you can file a report for the damage to your bag.
Have your passport and boarding pass ready. Bring your damaged suitcase or bag. The airline will provide further instructions from there. In most cases, TUI will repair the damaged bag at no cost to you. However, if the bag cannot be repaired, TUI will offer a replacement.
If you notice any damage to your baggage after you have left the airport, such as when you’re already at your hotel or at home, you can contact TUI directly using a complaint form on their website.

TUI Damaged Baggage Compensation
What are your rights if your baggage is damaged?
Could you be entitled to TUI baggage compensation of some sort?
Damaged Baggage Compensation
If your hold baggage is damaged, you may get compensation.
TUI is liable for that, and you may get compensation of up to €1300.
The compensation amount will be based on the value of your damaged bag and should cover the cost of purchasing a new bag of comparable value.
Don’t forget to register your TUI baggage compensation claim.
The airline will transfer the compensation directly to your bank account. You are not obligated to accept TUI compensation in the form of vouchers, miles, or coupons. Keep in mind that it is not recommended to pack electronic devices, art pieces, jewellery, or similar items in your checked baggage. TUI is not responsible for compensating the full value of these items but only as defined by the Montreal Convention and its Conditions of Carriage.
Please note that if the damage to your bag is caused by a defect in the bag itself, you will not receive compensation. Additionally, TUI is not responsible for minor damage such as small scratches, dents, and other regular wear and tear that may occur during air travel. Unfortunately, but that’s the realities of air travel.
Reimbursement of Expenses
In this case mostly you won’t get anything.
If your baggage is lost, and you have to replace any of your essential items, you are entitled to reimbursement for your expenses (sometimes referred to as delayed baggage compensation). You buy all these necessary things, then make a claim submitting all the receipts, and TUI compensates you for these expenses.
You have 21 days from the day you receive your lost baggage to file a claim for reimbursement. Keep in mind that this applies only to situations when your baggage is lost or delayed.

Is Travel Insurance Necessary?
Is baggage insurance necessary? Yes and no.
The answer is not straightforward. While you can travel without it, having insurance can be beneficial in certain situations.
In this case, TUI will be responsible for your luggage and its safe delivery due to the Montreal Convention, a treaty that is applicable to most international flights of TUI and other airlines worldwide. At the same time, having a good insurance is always useful.
Insurance may help you to get compensation quicker. To speed up your compensation process, reach out to your travel insurance company after filing a report for your damaged luggage. They may cover the cash value or cost of your bag. To make a claim, make sure to have the necessary paperwork from the Baggage Service Office.
It’s important to know that not all insurance policies include coverage for damage to your baggage. Be sure to check beforehand to prevent any unnecessary stress or unpleasant surprises in the future.
Travel Prepared
Having a backup plan is recommended.
While baggage damage is an uncommon occurrence, it can still happen.
Therefore, it is wise to pack spare clothes and underwear in your carry-on bag in case your checked suitcase and its belongings sustain damage. Additionally, refrain from stowing valuable items, money, medications, documents and credit cards in your checked luggage as the contents may be compromised if the bag is severely damaged. There is also the possibility of losing some of the contents.
Another option is to bring a packable or foldable duffle bag along with your main luggage. This way, if your primary luggage gets damaged, you can transfer your belongings to the duffle bag. Additionally, the packable duffle bag can be useful if you find yourself running out of space in your main luggage at the end of your trip.
Please note that the rules for compensation for delayed or lost baggage with TUI are the same as those for other airlines. This is due to the Montreal Convention, which applies to the carriage of baggage on most international flights operated by TUI and other airlines globally.
What is your experience with baggage damage and TUI? Have you ever received damaged baggage compensation from TUI or other airline?
