TUI Lost Baggage Compensation

TUI lost baggage compensation.

How much can you claim? What are the rules?

Losing luggage at the airport can happen for various reasons and it’s never enjoyable. It can be quite frustrating to wait by the baggage carousel, anticipating the arrival of your suitcase, only to realize that it probably didn’t make it. This is one of the most annoying aspects of air travel, yet thousands around the world experience it every day – luckily there are laws protecting you.

What to do if your luggage is lost?

What to Do If Your Luggage Is Lost?

First things first, report the loss of your bag.

Only after that you can claim TUI lost baggage compensation.

Don’t rush away! Remain in the baggage reclaim area (also known as the baggage hall) and locate the Baggage Service Office. This office is typically located next to the baggage carousels. This is where you can report any lost baggage.

Make sure you have your passport, boarding pass, and baggage tag ready. The baggage tag is a small sticker that is usually placed on your boarding pass once you have checked in your bag. If possible, you can also provide a photo of your bag to help with locating it more quickly. However, even if you only have your passport and boarding pass, you can still report lost luggage.

After reporting your lost baggage, often you will receive a written confirmation known as Property Irregularity Report (PIR) along with a personal reference number. Keep both. They should also inform you of the next steps. The time it takes to locate lost baggage varies depending on the situation. It could take also 24 hours or longer. Typically, you will receive an update within 12 hours.

After they contact you, you will still have to agree upon delivery.

You may be allowed to report missing baggage online.

Tracking Lost Baggage with TUI

You can track the progress with the airport and TUI.

First, you should be keeping in contact with the airport. However, if your baggage has been missing for more than six days (meaning if it isn’t just a short baggage delay), please contact TUI Luggage Services Department at 0333 577 0300.

Once your baggage is found, you will be contacted.

TUI Lost Baggage Compensation

What are your rights if your baggage is lost?

Could you be entitled to TUI baggage compensation if that happens? Is TUI going to cover any of your expenses, if you now replace some of your belongings? You needed your things, right?

Is your baggage really lost, or is it simply delayed?

Reimbursement of Expenses

If your baggage goes missing and you need to buy important items, you can receive reimbursement for your expenses (also known as delayed baggage compensation). However, you will not receive the money immediately, and you shouldn’t attempt to replace everything. Only replace essential items such as toiletries, underwear, and necessary clothing. These are items that you cannot do without and they were in your bag that got lost.

This applies only to essentials.

The most important thing — keep all the receipts!

To claim reimbursement for additional expenses, please submit the receipts. Remember, you have 21 days from the day you receive your lost baggage to file the claim. Don’t forget to meet this deadline.

Lost Baggage Compensation

TUI has 21 days to locate and return your baggage.

If TUI loses your baggage and it doesn’t show up within 21 days (3 weeks), you can get up to €1300 as compensation. To receive this payment, you must provide a list of the items you had in your baggage. It’s a good idea to prepare this list in advance so that you don’t forget anything.

It is recommended not to pack items such as electronics, art, and jewelry in checked baggage as TUI (or any airline) is not responsible for compensating for the full value of such items. Compensation will only be provided as defined by the Montreal Convention and Conditions of Carriage.

In addition to this, you can file a claim for additional expenses.

If your baggage is not found within 3 weeks (21 days), contact TUI. If you haven’t heard from them. After 3 weeks, you have a right to baggage compensation. They know that, but it may happen so, that they don’t contact you — as long as you don’t contact them first.

TUI has to pay this compensation to your bank account.

You don’t have to accept TUI compensation voucher.

Is Travel Insurance Necessary?

It isn’t necessary for this, but it may come in handy at some point.

Although no insurance documentation is required when filing a compensation claim, it is strongly advised to purchase travel insurance prior to your trip.

Having travel insurance can bring peace of mind during your trip, especially in case something goes wrong. If something like that happens, your travel insurance company will handle the consequences, making your experience more stress-free. Additionally, travel insurance is often inexpensive or may already be included with your debit or credit card.

Generally speaking, if your baggage is lost or delayed and it’s not your fault, you can usually get reimbursed for necessary purchases from TUI or your insurance company. Don’t forget that it’s important to keep all of your receipts if you plan on making a claim.

Please note, that not all insurance policies cover baggage delays.

Travel Prepared

In travel it’s always a good idea to have a plan B.

Baggage doesn’t get lost too often. But it does happen.

It’s wise to pack extra clothing and underwear in your carry-on bag in case your suitcase / checked backpack is lost or delayed for more than a few hours. Additionally, keep your medications and valuable items in your carry-on bag for easy access even if your checked baggage is not available immediately upon arrival at your destination.

Be prepared that your bag may get lost someday.

Please note that the rules for compensation for delayed or lost baggage with TUI are the same as those for other airlines. This is due to the Montreal Convention, which applies to the carriage of baggage on most international flights operated by TUI and other airlines globally.

What is your experience with baggage delays on TUI flights? Has TUI ever lost your baggage? Have you ever applied for “TUI delayed baggage compensation” (reimbursement of expenses in case of baggage delay)?
