TUI refund for cancellation.
What are the rules? How to change TUI voucher to cash?
If a flight gets cancelled, oftentimes the TUI refund policy is not relevant. Instead, the European Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 (and Regulation UK261) takes effect. These regulations outline the precise actions that European airlines must take when they cancel flights and sets out the rights of passengers whose flights are cancelled.
TUI Refund For Cancellation
There are two most likely scenarios.
So, let’s start — when was your flight cancelled?
Scenario 1: Flight Is Cancelled Less Than 2 Weeks Before the Trip
You can get: Cancellation refund or new flight + compensation.
Compensation is due if it is fault of TUI.
If TUI cancels your flight within 14 days of your trip, you have two options. They must give you the choice of a new flight to your destination or a full refund. It’s up to you to choose what works best for you. If the cancellation is TUI’s fault, you may also be eligible for compensation – TUI flight cancellation compensation (for flights to and from EU, EEA and UK).
Both refund and compensation must be paid to your bank account.

Scenario 2: Flight Is Cancelled More Than 2 Weeks Before the Trip
You can get: Refund or new flight to your destination.
You are not entitled to compensation if the cancellation occurred more than 14 days before your trip. However, you do have the right to choose a refund instead of another flight. TUI is required to offer you this choice and you have the right to pick whichever option is best for you.
Your TUI refund should be paid within 7 days.
Contact the airline to check your TUI refund request status.
Yes, the same applies also to charter airlines.
TUI Cancelled Flight Refund: FAQ
1. If My Flight Is Cancelled, Do I Get a Refund?
Flying with TUI? It’s a flight from or to Europe? Then yes.
You can either opt for a refund or a new flight, but not both in this situation. Apart from that, if TUI is responsible for cancelling your flight less than 14 days before the scheduled departure date, you may be eligible for both TUI compensation and either a refund or a new flight.
If it’s airline’s fault, you can get more.
2. TUI Voucher Refund or Cash, Can I Get Money?
What if TUI is offering you a voucher not money?
During the COVID crisis, several airlines offered coupons. It is a regular practice for many. If TUI offers you a compensation voucher, can you decline it? Yes, you have the option to refuse the voucher. According to the rules of the European Union (Regulation (EC) No 261/2004) and the UK261, airlines are required to provide compensation and refunds in cash or through a bank transfer.
Have you already been given a voucher?
Ask TUI to exchange travel voucher to cash.
3. TUI Refusing Refund For Cancellation?
You have to be prepared for that.
Remind TUI that it’s their obligation as a European airline, and refer to Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, Articles 5 and 8 (UK261, the same articles). If nothing seems to be helping, contact national enforcement body in the country your flight is from. If your flight is from a country outside the EU, EEA, UK, contact the agency in a destination country.

4. Can You Get Both Compensation and Refund?
Yes, in some situations you can get both.
If TUI cancels your flight due to their fault within 14 days of your trip, you can opt for a full refund and also receive compensation owed to you by TUI. The good news is that you can choose to have both the refund and compensation paid directly to your bank account, without having to settle for vouchers or coupons. If TUI has already provided you with a voucher, you can ask for a cash refund instead – they must assist you with the exchange.
5. What Happens If I Cancel a Flight, Not the Airline?
If you, as a passenger, cancel a flight, the refund policy depends on the fare rules of your ticket.
Most airlines, including TUI, offer flexible fares that are refundable, albeit more expensive.
If you booked a non-refundable fare, which is typically cheaper, you might not receive a refund upon cancellation. However, TUI may offer to convert your ticket into a voucher for future travel. Keep in mind that cancellation and no-show policies vary by airline and ticket type, so it’s important to review your fare rules when booking.
6. What If My TUI Flight Is Delayed, Not Cancelled?
Under European Union Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, if your TUI flight is delayed by 3 hours or more, you may be eligible for compensation. The amount depends on the length of the delay and the flight distance. It’s important to note that the delay is calculated based on the arrival time, not the departure time.
If, however, the delay is due to extraordinary circumstances outside the airline’s control, such as bad weather or air traffic control issues, you will not be eligible for compensation.
7. Can I Get a Refund If I Miss My Flight?
Generally, if you miss your flight due to personal reasons (also known as being a ‘no-show’), you likely won’t be eligible for a refund. Airlines typically have strict no-show policies.
However, if you miss your flight due to circumstances within the airline’s control (like a flight cancellation or significant delay), TUI is obliged to offer you assistance and possibly compensation. To understand your rights and entitlements, always refer to the airline’s fare conditions and the European Union Regulation (EC) No 261/2004.
